Lightning Warning System

Lightning KillsThe Captains Golf Course has installed a new lightning warning system on the course.  Lightning is random and deadly.  In the United States, approximately 5% of lightning deaths occur on golf courses.

When lightning is detected in the area by the system, you will hear one loud burst from the sirens that are installed in four locations around the golf courses.  In addition, there is a strobe light that flashes on each post.  Once the alarm sounds, the course is closed for further play.  Not even one more shot, or one more putt.

When it is safe again, the sirens will sound two bursts and the strobe lights will turn off.  At this time, the course will reopen and play can resume.

The USGA Rule 6-8 allows for a player to discontinue play when he believes there is danger from lightning without penalty even without a signal.
